Heathrow's Pairwise tool tightens arrival spacing safely

Heathrow uses Pairwise, an addition to the Intelligent Approach arrivals tool built by NATS and Leidos, to separate landing aircraft by individual type rather than broad weight categories. Analysis shows gains in landing rates, delays and emissions, as controllers can safely reduce separation between some aircraft pairs, Aviation Week reports.

A heuristic for optimal coordination of autonomous vehicles: static problems

arXiv · 2026-10-28

Announce Type: new Abstract: We consider the coordination of autonomous vehicles at unsignalized intersections, where trajectory planning and crossing-order decisions are intrinsically coupled, thereby making their simultaneous optimization intractable in practice. To this end, we propose a heuristic based on. Preprint, not peer reviewed.

Preprint

A regularized lattice Boltzmann model for the solid-liquid phase change

arXiv · 2026-10-28

Announce Type: new Abstract: In this study, a regularized lattice Boltzmann method is proposed for solid-liquid phase-change simulations. The governing total-enthalpy equation is solved within a regularized lattice Boltzmann (RLB) framework, which enables accurate tracking of the solid-liquid interface while. Preprint, not peer reviewed.

An Open-Source Hybrid Ray-Tracing and 3GPP Channel Simulator for Non-Terrestrial Network

arXiv · 2026-10-28

Announce Type: new Abstract: This paper proposes a hybrid channel simulation framework that combines site-specific ray tracing (RT) with 3GPP-compliant statistical channel simulation for non-terrestrial networks (NTNs). The proposed approach uses RT to generate dominant propagation paths and augments them. Preprint, not peer reviewed.

Preprint

Attenuation of shoaling extreme wave crests by artificial salt marshes

arXiv · 2026-10-28

Announce Type: new Abstract: Laboratory experiments in a wave flume investigated the attenuation of shoaling extreme waves by artificial salt marshes placed immediately before an abrupt depth transition. Increasing vegetation density systematically reduced the excess kurtosis of the surface elevation. Preprint, not peer reviewed.

Preprint

Continuum thermodynamics of chemically reacting multi-temperature fluid mixtures

arXiv · 2026-10-28

Announce Type: new Abstract: We develop a continuum-thermodynamic model for chemically reacting, multi-velocity and multi-temperature fluid mixtures. Partial balances of mass, momentum and total energy are closed using a single entropy density depending jointly on the constituent mass and nonkinetic. Preprint, not peer reviewed.

Cutting, Shuffling and Diffusion as a Coarsening Process

arXiv · 2026-10-28

Announce Type: cross Abstract: Cutting and shuffling (CS) rearranges fluid without stretching, but homogenisation requires diffusion (D), this interaction is not well understood. We show that CSD is a coarsening process, with scale $\bar\ell=L(n_c\mathrm{Pe}/2)^{-1/3}$ rather than the Batchelor scale, and. Preprint, not peer reviewed.

DSMC Study of Hypersonic Boundary-Layer Unsteadiness Using Data-Driven Analysis

arXiv · 2026-10-28

Announce Type: new Abstract: The prediction of transition remains challenging because the receptivity amplitude is usually prescribed rather than measured. This work uses Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) to study an unforced Mach 6 nitrogen boundary layer over a 120. Preprint, not peer reviewed.
